Parents unite! Today, Friday, April 24th, the annual mandatory standardized tests are over. But only until the next school year. If you are asking yourself what the next step to discontinue the environment of perpetual preparation for the tests could be, here is a suggestion.
Last week, the Alexander-Murray bill, entitled The Every Child Achieves Act of 2015 (download pdf), passed the Senate. Now, they are discussing amendments. The bill represents an update to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) whose latest version is also known as No Child Left Behind. The proposed bill maintains the annual standardized testing.
If we want to eliminate the annual standardized testing, we need to be proactive and convince our Senators and members of Congress about better ways to assess students. Only few of them, like Sen. Jon Tester of Montana, hear our voice. Below I included contact links to representatives covering Malverne school district, NY.
Please, write them in this matter, or add more issues. The 600-page document certainly provides ample inspiration.
