This post reflects my opinion regarding comments that originated on Facebook. There was expressed a disappointment that a candidate forum wouldn’t take place in the district 12 (MUFSD) prior to the election this year. It was suggested I invite the incumbent board of education member who I challenge to a debate.
I am open to debates regarding the future of the school district 12. A debate with a board member who last July signed on administrative salary increases, intentionally covering such act, thus relegating the board to a mere committee for advancing administrative interests (CAAI) wouldn’t be about a future. The debate would inevitably swing to the principal divide between the residents of the district 12.
On one hand, there are supporters of the current board of education/administration who value the streamlined absolute power, who trust the district leadership is barrelling in the right direction. On the other hand, there are residents who feel they have been manipulated, disrespected, and are not represented by the board.
This principle divide has been debated around the tables of many district households since last July. It’s an existential divide, as there cannot be a compromise. Either, the latter group retreats to other activities and lets the CAAI push their agenda, or the former group resigns.
Many already know where I stand. My objective can be found on the About page. There will be many debates necessary. I offer to coordinate efforts of residents who want to participate in school district matters in a meaningful and sincere way. Our work has to prove that our group deserves to prevail. At this moment, we are far from that point and a change in membership in the CAAI would be just symbolic.
